The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has officially posted acceleration numbers that would have sounded impossible for a gasoline-powered American production car just a few years ago. With staggering output and clever launch tech, it’s now running neck-and-neck with the quickest hypercars on the planet—even some fully electric ones.

0–60 MPH in 1.68 Seconds

In recent performance testing on a prepared drag strip surface, the Corvette ZR1X blasted from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.68 seconds. That figure puts it in extremely rare company and makes it one of the quickest-accelerating production cars ever—regardless of price, layout, or drivetrain type.

Quarter-Mile: 8.675 Seconds at 159 MPH

It didn’t stop at the launch. The ZR1X also tore through the quarter-mile in 8.675 seconds, crossing the traps at 159 mph. Even more impressive: these runs weren’t one-off hero passes. The car reportedly managed repeat back-to-back quarter-mile runs under 8.8 seconds, showing consistency rather than luck.

Stock Car, Real Fuel, Street Tires

Despite the borderline race-car performance, the ZR1X achieved these numbers in essentially street form. The twin-turbo 5.5-liter LT7 V-8 was running on pump gas, and the car was wearing standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, mounted to available carbon-fiber wheels.

The Catch: A Prepped Surface

There is one major asterisk: the best times were recorded on a prepped drag strip, where the surface is treated for maximum traction. That significantly improves grip and helps explain how the car can hit such a brutal 0–60 time without turning the launch into wheelspin chaos.

Still, even with that advantage, the results remain jaw-dropping—especially given the tires and street-car setup.

Aero Package Still Delivers on an Unprepped Surface

Even when configured with the optional ZTK Performance Package (which adds aggressive aero including a large carbon-fiber wing and dive planes), the car remained absurdly quick. On an unprepared surface, it reportedly ran:

  • 0–60 mph in 1.89 seconds

  • Quarter-mile in 8.99 seconds

That means it still meets the promise of sub-2-second 0–60 and sub-9-second quarter-mile, even with huge aerodynamic drag and downforce in play.

Launch Control Is Doing a Lot of Work

A big part of these results comes from the car’s Custom Launch Control, which helps regulate traction and clutch/transmission behavior at the hit. Drivers can adjust things like launch RPM and wheel slip targets, while the car manages the rest behind the scenes to maximize acceleration.

Hypercar Performance for a (Relatively) Normal Price

What really makes the ZR1X stand out is value. With a reported starting MSRP of $209,700, it may be the most affordable entry point into this level of acceleration—delivering performance that competes with million-dollar hypercars while undercutting them by an enormous margin.
